Now I am . Newest mplayer refuses to play the video, apparently due to a colorspace incompatibility:

Try appending the scale filter to your filter list,
e.g. -vf spp,scale instead of -vf spp.
Is perhaps VDPAU unable to decode YUV422P MPEG-2 streams? does this depend on the GPU model?
