sounds good in theory but from a developer's stand point, this means that they no longer have a nice tidy controlled hardware environment to develop for. They would have to essentially make a game that's been tested on various hardware and then support all that.
If it happened though, I wouldn't complain but I'm wondering IF we ever see something like this, how they would deal with keyboard/mouse or I'm assuming you'd HAVE to use a 360 controller.
previously made games wouldn't have any built in graphics options or control options to actually take advantage of the higher end hardware or anything like that. It would require devs to put out PC patches to handle all of that.
