Well... for the most part, very few games have demanded that much system memory but relied more on video RAM.

I know crysis had a 64 bit mode that was more or less useless (in my experience) but a nice gesture.. and if you installed cinematic mod for HL2, it pretty much required a 64 bit OS to not crash due to the massive amount of ram needed for the textures and from what I can gather, it automatically would indeed suck down GOBS of ram even though I never saw specifically where steam or HL2 was 64 bit capable.
