There are actually quite a lot that really enhance the appearance of the world/people/weapons/etc without standing out too much.

the biggest texture problem is the alpha layers or whatever they're called.. essentially the snow/moss texture that lays on top of rock and stone wall, etc textures. These for whatever reason (i'm not an expert on it) can't be changed until the kit is released and if you have higher res rock and stone walk way textures and that extra snow/moss layer is on top, it looks even worse than default.

Aside from that though, the right mods will make a night and day difference on the appearance of the game.
