Default HDMI Audio Problem on ASUS 1215N - Opensuse 12.1 - Kernel 3.1.9-1.4

Hello,

I use the NVIDIA binary driver 295.20 and the HDMI graphic output works fine. The problem I have with the above configuration is that the NVIDIA HDMI audio card does not show up in lscpi (is not detected at all). Since this netbook has an ION 2 card, I guess that it should be there. I have read
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=159346
but my problem is not covered there.

The output of lspci is:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation N10 Family DMI Bridge (rev 02)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 2 (rev 02)

00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH7 Family SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02)
00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family SMBus Controller (rev 02)
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8152 v2.0 Fast Ethernet (rev c1)
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Device 0a76 (rev a2)

From the observation on Windows, where everything is working perfectly fine, my guess is that the situation is the following: When I use Windows and plug in a HDMI device then the NVIDIA sound card driver enables the audio chip on the ION card, Windows detects that and "installs" the driver. Otherwise the sound chip is turned off for power saving reasons (OPTIMUS?), hence the system cannot detect that it is there.

My question is: Is there a solution for this problem, for example is there a way to turn on this sound chip manually? (There is no way to do this via BIOS) Or am I missing a very stupid point?

Furthermore, since I guess this is OPTIMUS related, will/can this issue be resolved?

Regards
Jan
