Ars at E3
Today marks the final weekday before the craziness that is the Electronic Entertainment Expo begins with Monday's cavalcade of press conferences. A number of publishers are using the day to get a jump on the show, releasing new gameplay-heavy trailers for some of the titles they'll be showing off this year. Here are a few standouts from today's video dump.
Tomb Raider trailer
The new video repeats some portions that were shown during last year's E3 unveiling
, but also reveals a bit more about Lara's struggle to survive after a mysterious plane crash leaves her and her companions stranded on an island full of murderous thugs. Battles with natural forces like wolves, cold, and darkness figure just as heavily as the hard-bitten fights with abduction-happy humans, and there's even a plane-climbing bit that seems right out of Uncharted
. We also have a newly confirmed release date for the game: March 5, 2013.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer
The futuristic political-philosophical babble that dominates the beginning of this trailer is nothing new for the Metal Gear
series. The action-heavy gameplay on display, on the other hand, is quite a departure for a franchise that has traditionally valued stealth over combat. Still, you have to be intrigued by a game that lets you chop an entire helicopter into tiny bits with a sword, or take out a guard by slicing through
the thick pillar he's hiding behind.
