Post PlayStation 4 Games 'Are in Development', Sony Comments on Console's E3 Absence

Following Jack Tretton's comments on how Sony is never first in releasing consoles, the company has elaborated on the SCEA president's comments by saying they had no time to mention the PS4 during their E3 press conference. The firm has also confirmed games for the next-gen platform are already in development.

Senior vice president Scott Rohde said there was just too many PlayStation 3 titles to display during their presser, leading to the absence of the PS4. He did, however, confirm to GTTV that games were in development stages for the unannounced platform:
We're not talking about when the machine is coming out, but I think anyone on the planet knows that, of course, games are in development.

As for the absence of the PS4 during E3, Rohde said:
It was just something we didn't feel was important to bring up this year. We had probably five or ten other games that probably deserved stage time that didn't get it, right? We always have so much to talk about that we felt we didn't need to talk about that just yet.

Sony also cited another reason for not showcasing the platform yet; they feel comfortable with longer console lifecycles, such as the PlayStation 2 still selling well:
Believe it or not, PlayStation 2 still sells well in some parts of the world, so we're still supporting that to a degree. It's the way this company is set up ' to handle those sorts of things ' so it's not something we're concerned about.

Although the PS3 successor was absent from Sony's E3 press conference, the company's stock is on the rise. The PlayStation 4 itself is rumored to be releasing during Q4, 2013.
