Hmm, alrighty...
[checks]

Well, indeed, there are warnings:
Jan 12 19:54:30 poochzilla kernel: 0: nvidia: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 nvidia.o Kernel Module 1.0-5328 Wed Dec 17 13:54:51
PST 2003
Jan 12 19:54:30 poochzilla insmod: Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o will taint the kern
el: non-GPL license - NVIDIA
Jan 12 19:54:30 poochzilla insmod: Module nvidia loaded, with warnings

However, looking back to a -4496-vintage section of the log, same message just with appropriately different feedback:
Jan 5 19:42:38 poochzilla kernel: 0: nvidia: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 nvidia.o Kernel Module 1.0-4496 Wed Jul 16 19:03:09
PDT 2003
Jan 5 19:42:38 poochzilla insmod: Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o will taint the kern
el: non-GPL license - NVIDIA
Jan 5 19:42:38 poochzilla insmod: Module nvidia loaded, with warnings

So, I'll just nip off and uninstall -5328 and re-install -4496 and see if things change...

Back real soon now...
