Default a question about gfwl games on steam

I was wondering since I haven't read anything about it,what is happening with games for windows live games that are on steam. Because when I tried playing batman: arkham city again, I only have to activate the game via the wb games server. When it came to activatiing via gfwl, I could only click the button and not actually use the console. Now I know that the gfwl is pretty much dead. What I need to know is if the steam cloud now acts as the save game engine for the game. Because I know from the past that gfwl games didn't save at checkpoints unless your gfwl account was logged into. If there any thoughts or ideas, it would be appreciated. Because I don't want have to chuck a game or two because microsoft went console ape s and abandoned the pc gaming world.
