my question about pci-e lane choices
If I were intel, I would take the latency killing plx chip out of the equation for mainstream and hedt user. I would make hedt mb's with 64 pci-e 3.0 native lanes and the mainstream with onboard cpu pci-e 3.0 32 lanes. Keep it binary so it makes sense and give the user more flexibility so that the hedt can have up to true native 4 way multi gpu at 16x 3.0 a piece and the mainstream user can have up to 4 way multi-gpu at 8x pci-e 3.0 a piece. There's a reason why nvidia stopped making the nf200 chip for 4 way sli motherboards. The latency was almost killing the 4 way effect.
