You didnt make good observation, just look at your system spec, your RAM held you back, you need to upgrade to 800Mhz FSB and you will realised Nvidia's DX 9 performance in Far Cry is not so terrible as you thought. You will notice it has around the same performance as ATI. On my system with 266Mhz FSB Athlon XP 1800+ and 266Mhz CL2 512Mb RAM, all settings in options to the maximum, I got 35 to 60 fps indoor and 22 to 35 fps outdoor with both PS & VS 2.0 and 1.1.
