Default Go5600, fedora, Cant startx

I hope someone can help here. Would my much appreciated

I have installed fedora core 2 on my vaio - PCG-GRT916V which has the FX Go5600 graphics controller. I have downloaded the latest IA32 drivers from the nvidia site, and installed them ok. I have kernel 2.6.3-

When i startx, the screen goes blank and stays that way untill I terminate the X session, then i have to ctrl-alt-f1 to bring the console back.

I have commented out the <dri>=/dev/nvidia* /dev/3dfx* in /etc/security/console.perms. And checked the /dev/nvida*'s are chmod 0666 and owned by root.

Thanks for any help...
