I'm user of software suspend 2.0 http://swsusp.sourceforge.net/
will soon be included in the kernel head. As many other users I have
several problems with nvidia binary driver. The system resumes correctly
after software suspend, but when i switch back to X the system
deadlocks. Even disabling the agp support didn't help nor tweeks in the
PM code in nv.c .
Please fix this, because we can't.
ACPI isn't new in the kernel and mostly every open source driver supports it correctly. In fact, i'm disappointed by vendors of binary driver and their lack of interest and support. Developer get bug reports they can't reproduce by buggy drivers and most annoying, nobody except the vendor can fix it, which seems to take month in average.
When a vendor can't follow the development cycles in the kernel, he should provide specs or open source driver and let the community handle it. Developers are busy enough with coding and should not be bothered with unresolvable problems.
The hole graphic card marked looks so fearful to me. I know, its a hard ground, but when i buy a graphic card, i buy hardware, not software. Buying a peace of hardware with or without open source drivers wouln't change the price, a driver without hw will not work. It just looks like, that vendors try to hide dirty hacks to beat competitors in benchmarks (which was shown many times).
