From your XF86Config:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nv"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce FX (generic)"
EndSection

Change the line about the driver, so that it reads:

Driver "nvidia"

You do not have any modelines, by the way, maybe you have deleted them too enthusiastically. ;-) I take it you are running some sort of RedHat derivative, so before you change anything either copy the modelines from a backup XF86Config, or run 'system-config-display' or 'redhat-config-display' to recreate the XF86Config (including modelines), then change the driver like described above.
