I think what you are failing to realize is that theoretically a SM2.0 part, such as the x800, should take a significant speed hit from emulating SM3.0 shaders due to having to do more work to get the same visual effect. i.e. during the 6800 launch video, CryTek displayed a scene in FarCry that used SM3.0's instancing which ran at 30fps in SM3.0, and 11fps in SM2.0. This is not something you can tell with the current publically available version of FarCry. Even if a 6800 card runs SM3.0 effects at 30fps at high res/aa/af, its possible that an x800 will run the same effects at the same settings at 15fps. We really don't know, but theoretically if implemented properly, SM3.0 effects should run faster on a SM3.0 card than the same effects emulated on an equally powerful SM2.0 card. As for AF effects, we have no idea what the game was running since Nvidia's drivers can override the game's settings.
