Default Re: new to linux, getting extremely low framrates even after updating my drivers

as root:

edit: /etc/X11/XF86Config

where it shows:

#************************************************* *********************
# Graphics device section
#************************************************* *********************

(Lines Removed)

Section "Device"
Identifier "..." (yours will say something insted of ...)
Driver "nv"

change to:

Driver "nvidia"

And in:
#************************************************* *********************
# Module section -- this section is used to specify
# which dynamically loadable modules to load.
#************************************************* *********************
#
Section "Module"

Make sure that there is:

Load "glx"

Important that there is no "#" before it (example: "# Load")

Save the file and do one of these:
Eather reboot
or
type this in a console: init 3
(you will be in a text screen)
login as root and type: init 4

Now you should be running the nvidia driver
