In Carmack's keynote speech, he talked about how he's adding sub-surface scattering for skin tones to the next engine. Now, it'd be nice if they added, say, an option to Quake IV (OMGWTFBBQ QUAKE IV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm really glad to hear that the multiplayer is going to be somewhat (at least in the movement it appears) like Quake III. It has by far the best feel of a multiplayer game to date. No one else even tries :/) to turn on this sub-surface scattering. I'm sure that id could side-port it to Raven if they're still producing Quake IV when Carmack's got it working in his next engine.
