I think you misunderstood

At NewEgg.com I can buy a DVD Reader (not writer) for $27. My brother would need to buy one as well (neither of us have DVD drives). Then we would have to purchase the $70 collectors edition of the game.

$27+$27+$70= $124 to play HL2

It would be a lot cheaper to just buy the CD version and not buy any extra drives. That would only cost us $50.
