What distribution are you using ?
If you're using Fedora Core then you need to go to SRPMS (sorce rpms) directory (any mirror should have that directory) and get the sources for your current kernel.
If you're using Debian/Ubuntu you could use synaptic to download the sources for your kernel.
If the installed doens't find a precompiled kernel interface for you on the internet then it needs to compile one and that's why you need the sources.
