For those searching who happen to look at this, dump XFree86.
Most distros are going straight to xorg.
I hear that XFree just may go away. Don't worry the syntax between xorg and XFree86 config files are the same, so no real new things to learn.
Follow the link in this thread on the how-to, it is very helpful.
Or, you can just re-install your OS, if you so desire, with the latest version of OS. Redhat I have confirmed has gone this direction.
