Default Re: Trying to make headway into finding the Xid crashes source...

Hi,

Here are my 2 cents to the problem...

I recently upgraded my system from SuSE Linux 9.2 to SuSE Linux 9.3 and I have the habit of running games on a different X-Server than my Xfce. Under 9.2 I never had a problem switching between the two X-Servers but since I started using 9.3 my computer will crash in 8 out of 10 cases when I switch from 3D to 2D (or 2D to 3D). Sometimes only a Reset helps, but sometimes I can still log in from a different computer using ssh and I find what most people know as the "Xid" problem... the X process goes nuts and eats up the whole CPU-power (top: 99.9%) and dmesg shows stuff like this:
Code:
NVRM: Xid: 23,  L1 -> L0
NVRM: Xid: 3, C 00000002 SC 00000003 M 00000184 Data beef0201
NVRM: Xid: 23,  L0 -> L0
NVRM: Xid: 8, Channel 00000000
NVRM: Xid: 3, C 00000002 SC 00000003 M 00000184 Data beef0201
NVRM: Xid: 8, Channel 00000020
NVRM: Xid: 3, C 00000002 SC 00000003 M 00000184 Data beef0201
NVRM: Xid: 3, C 00000002 SC 00000003 M 00000184 Data beef0201
NVRM: Xid: 3, C 00000002 SC 00000003 M 00000184 Data beef0201
NVRM: Xid: 8, Channel 00000020
NVRM: Xid: 8, Channel 00000020
NVRM: Xid: 8, Channel 00000020
So I downgraded from X.org 6.8.2 (which came with 9.3) to X.org 6.8.1 (which came with 9.2). The crashes, when switching between X-Servers, seem to be gone, as far as I can see
But I still get Xid messages when switching... (not always, 2 out of 10)
Code:
NVRM: Xid: 23,  L1 -> L0
NVRM: Xid: 6, PE01ff 1ffc ffffffff 00000018 00000000 00000000
NVRM: Xid: 23,  L1 -> L0
NVRM: Xid: 6, PE01ff 1ffc ffffffff 0031fefc 00000000 00000000
NVRM: Xid: 23,  L1 -> L0
NVRM: Xid: 6, PE01ff 1ffc ffffffff 00000018 00000000 00000000
I don't know why with X.org 6.8.2 I get Xid: 23, 8 and 3 (and crashes...) and with 6.8.1 I get Xid: 23 and 6.

I still have the problem that if I play a game (like Doom3 or NWN) the game sometimes crashes after 30 min and if I start again it doesn't crash again even if I play for hours. It's always just the game that crashes not the whole system. (this happend under 9.2 too)

I attached the nvidia-bug-reports for SuSE 9.2 and SuSE 9.3. (for machine specs and stuff...)

My System:
CPU: P4 2,8c Ghz
MoBo: Asus P4P800 Deluxe
Asus V9999 GE (GeForce 6800)
Nvidia Driver: 1.0-7174
SuSE Linux 9.3 (Kernel 2.6.11.4)
X.org 6.8.1 (downgraded from 6.8.2)
