Tried using nvclock to find a correlation between the GPU core speed, core temperature and Xid errors... no go.
While running Enemy-territory, the GPU crashed after less then 5 minutes when the temperature reached 67c, GPU speed was 500Mhz.
I tried running glxgears over night and it didn't crash; during the night the GPU temperature reached (and remained at around) 92c (!!!) but the machine remained stable; again, the core speed was 500Mhz.
While I should be getting a better GPU fan for my Leadtek, It seems that the core temperature has nothing to do with the dreaded Xid errors... (Same goes for the core speed)
