What do you mean by "nForce driver" versus vanilla kernel?

Are you using libata or the old kernel SATA driver? In the kernel config it's under Device Drivers->ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support->Enhanced IDE...->Support for SATA (deprecated: conflicts with libata SATA driver)

I have been using the newer libata on several nForce machines, one of which is my development VMware machine that is totally hammered all day long without issues (although that is a nForce3 Pro machine).
