The OP didn't mean in general. He likely meant he was shocked to see one priced over the 7800GT. There are still e-tailers out there and others that keep 6800GT|Ultra prices elevated hoping for the best.

The lowest 6800GT I could find in price via pricewatch and froogle were 280 and 275 respectively. They have some on the Egg with rebate that would drop them to 249.

The Egg also has a evga 7800GT at 460|1.100 that comes with a rebate that would reduce it to 279.
