Had another try with the new drivers.
The default VGA (794 of 0x31A) are just as bad as they were...but I think I get the groovy screen in 1280x1024 now instead of 800x600. Improvement? :P

I tried vga=795 to have it at the same depth and resolution as my X and that has also improved. I now get a console with a pink background and white text; so at least it is usable. The only downside is that I just get a plain black console while booting, not the nice SUSE supplied one with background image, and everything hidden, etc.

All with TV-out connected of course, otherwise things work fine.
