Yes I did try switching the cables and the monitors and that isn't the problem . I have a machine that can dual boot on windows and linux and the same machine with the same cables looks on with the monitor that's hooked to the VGA output on windows, but not on Linux.

I have a friend who uses the same monitors, (on Debian) however with a nvidia Graphics card that supports dual DVI and his display is crystal clear.
