Default Re: 7667 issues; black screen/ X windows crashing

Alright- I got the nvidia-glx package installed (apt-get) correctly, and I'm getting the exact same symptoms as I did with the newest 2 drivers (manual install). If I remember right, the packaged driver is 7667.

Black screen as X attempts to start, hard lock up. I've included a log report after a reboot into recovery mode. I've also included the xorg.conf file that I am booting too.

Seeing that the exact things are occuring, regardless of the driver or method of installation, and I haven't made any significant changes to Ubuntu either time (between 2 versions, 5.04 and 5.10), and the majority of users are not having much of an issue, is it most likely a hardware conflict-type issue?

So... should I go ahead and install the newer drivers? Ubuntu doesn't seem to locks up the same either way... and I don't really see the need, unless you've can get better bug reports and such through them.

Thanks so far...
