Have you tried removing your Audigy 2 and testing without it? My A2 was giving me trouble and I got rid of it. There's also looping sound you say, which is another point against the sound card, and 3DM can loop for hours but it doesn't use any sound so... Give it a try, you've got nothing to lose.
