Ran into this problem when I added spaces to line up the text with the other columns. Don't or you get the same error, also when you have it right you have to restart gdm.

This can be done by a restart or ctrl+alt+F1 into a console, then become root or sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop. Then to start gdm back up type sudo gdm, gdm is the gnome display manager and thus if you use kde it woule be kdm instead. sudo is the way of becoming root in ubuntu, basically means super user do this, and is not needed by some other distros.
