Default FC4 x86_64 incompatibility with NFORCE_x86_1.0.0310

Hi all,

Specs : ASUS A8N CSM, AMD64 3200, FC4.

I upgraded the FC4 with the latest kernel (dated april 20). NVIDIA GFX driver 1.0.8756 installed fine. However NFORCE 1.0.0310 had problems. The Network driver installed fine, but the sound driver gave me this problem :

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvsound.ko'. This is most likely
because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source
files. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files
for your kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you
have the 'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct
kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source
path with the '--kernel-source-path' commandline option.

After the kernel upgrade, with the borked NFORCE sound driver, the sound began to exhibit the infamous high pitch noise. I plunged ahead by upgrading to alsa-sound 1.0.11 (which is suppose to fix the high pitch noise). The alsa upgrade fixed the highpitch noise.

But, now, I have some specific programs that lost its sound, like quake3_x86 (crash out during boot) and ppracer (no sound).

So, this is a frustrating problem : some programs have sound, some have none. I don't even know how to begin to file a bug report....

any ideas?

Will NVIDIA be releasing a newer version of NFORCE to be compatible with soon? (If not, I'll downgrade...)
