Default Re: nVidia driver 1.0-8178 on FreeBSD 6.0 freezes system -> workaround

I am currently using FreeBSD 6.1 on a ASUS A8V K8T800Pro chipset with an EVGA GeForce 6600 AGP.

I had a similar problem: each time I used an OpenGL application using the nvidia driver the computer
would completely freeze within a few minutes (sometimes a few seconds ...)

I played with the various AGP options in the BIOS and then upgraded my PSU to an Antec NeoHe 500W.
No effect.

I decided to disconnect the supplemental power adapter (at the back of the card) to see if would make
a difference... and bingo!

The card now runs at a lower speed but no more freezes!

I'm using the latest driver from nVidia:

hw.nvidia.agp.card.rates: 8x 4x
hw.nvidia.agp.card.fw: supported
hw.nvidia.agp.card.sba: supported
