You might want to look at your northbridge heatsink...someone here posted a pic of the realllllly bad heat sink thermal grease application which caused random blockiness to appear only when using OpenGL apps. The Asus is known to have this quirk...
My CSM was bought in December 2005 too. I had to wait a week for fresh delivery from Asus. Looking at heatsinks is good idea, Asus don't take special care about thermal problems. Southbridge on Asus mainboard has no heatsink when MSI and other manufacturers install such thing.
