Yes single core CPUs greatly reduce 3dmark06.

A great value right now with awesome overclocking is a 965 board and a E6400. I am seeing folks @ the XS forums pass up or equal E6600s and E6700s on air. The 965 has higher latency that allows for higher FSB and the 2MB chips seem to be easier to get up high on air. If you are on water or phase you may do better with an E6600. Again if you are an overclocker and primarily just game, get an E6400|965 set up for value and performance.

Beware folks showing massive OCs with ES chips, they are not retail!
