Actually, that's exactly what they want
other companies to do. What with release cycles of six months to a year, this is the kind of thing you want
your competition to do. Considering that the time it takes to reverse-engineer a card's features knowing only
the full driver source is (at a guess) at minimum six to eight months, that's 6 to 8 months that nVidia has a jump on their competition. They can then use that time to make their own chips better.
While the competition is doing nothing but playing catch-up.
