Default nvidia driver not loading

Hi all,

I am running suse 10.1 and have an nvidia geforce4 420 go graphics card, and up till now everything was wqorking great, and then did a kernel upgrade and reinstalled the nvidia driver for the new kernel, and tested and was working fine and was using it for 2 days and then my xorg would not start and found out that my GL links were all fried and that was why xorg was not loading, and so reinstalled the GL packages and now x will start only using the nvidia dummy driver. Now when i try to install the nvidia driver 8762, it installs fine, but then when trying to configure sax2 with sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia, it just hangs on trying to load the nvidia driver and does not even display the logo. Also then for me to use the nvidia dummy driver, i have to uninstall the nvidia 8762 driver otherwise if i try to change to the dummy driver while the 8762 is installed, using sax2 -r -m 0=nv it will also hang at the same point.

I have also checked my xorg.0.log and it stops loading on /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/

So does anyone know what else could be causing the nvidia 8762 driver from loading? I am trying not to have to reinstall suse 10.1!
