I've recently installed Ubuntu 6.06, and have been attempting to install the newest 8774 driver (which is on the list of supported card on the nvidia 8774 readme: http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...ppendix-a.html)

When I reboot, X tries to start and my lcd screen goes blank, with what can best be described as what sort of looks like the 'patterns of color' that happen when you push an LCD screen with your finger (except much dimmer) in the middle of the screen...
the startup sound plays, so I'm assuming everything is starting up.. but I have no way of seeing anything.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there any way to resolve it?

I just tried installing the nvidia-glx and nvidia-kernel-common pakcages as per this guide: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper#H...r_.28NVIDIA.29
And the same result....
