Default Re: FC5 fail to load "nvsound.ko"

Hi Lonni

I have a laptop (Gateway MX3410) which has nVidia MCP51 High Definition Audio (nForce chipset that is).
I'm trying to make the sound work with nvsound.ko in Knoppix 4.0.2 (kernel 2.6.12).
The fact is, both sound and video drivers compile with no problem, they even load with no problem. Network driver works perfectly, but the sound doesn't. I don't get any sound of my speakers. If I run kanotix or knoppix 5.0.1, (they have more recent drivers) they pretend to see my sound controller with the snd_hda_intel driver, the mixer shows up in the taskbar, I can pull the sliders up and down, but when it comes to actually play a sound all I get is big silence.

here is the listing from lspci on my machine:

Code:

It's not clear to me whether I have to do something special to enable oss on my computer, but I've tried enabling OSS or Threaded OSS in Control Center and it tells me:
"Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device."

When I run kmixer it says it cannot find mixer.
If I run nvmixer, first it gives me the error "Nvsound: Unable to open the Mixer" about 30 times in konsole, then it opens the nvmixer GUI, and if I try to move some slider it gives me an error "Volume Set Failed".

Do you have any idea what else should I try? Is there something special I have to do to tell Linux it should OSS instead of ALSA or what?

Any answer here would be greatly appreciated, as well as your time spent for this.
