Hi. I recently bought a compaq v6000z which has the 430 Go nforce series chipset. In ubuntu as well as fedora core 5 (x86-64 releases) the audio device does not work properly. It is detected (listed and MCP51 HDA), but I get no sound, and an erorr in when trying to play back sound (cannot open device).
After a long amount of searching, I haven't run into any answers, so I'm posting here. I've already run across the 6150 Go problem (using the xorg "nv" driver will enable true widescreen support until the 9xx driver release for those interested). Any help on this would be appreciated. -TomcaT- |

If it helps, running kernel version: 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5 (x86_64). In the sound card config utiltiy log (scsound.log) I get the following error reported (coded to avoid smileys):
Code:
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo ALSA lib pcm_params.c:2152:(snd_pcm_hw_refine_slave) Slave PCM not usable aplay: set_params:879: Broken configuration for this PCM: no configurations available -TomcaT- Last edited by -TomcaT-; 09-19-06 at 11:55 AM. Using a similar system, same distro, different kernel.
I have an Asus M2PMV-NV, Ubuntu, tried kernels 2.6.17-ck1 and 2.6.18 so far. I've used the standard snd-hda-intel included in those kernels. Using latest nvidia graphics driver with drm. My problem is not with standard audio but with audio playback in Mythtv. Video is fine but audio is just a constant buzzing noise. Have you tried alsaconfig? |

No, I haven't tried that yet... I'll give it a shot though.

Well, acpi=off is a bad thing on this laptop. If you're having problems with getting a distro to install and boot, I'd suggest getting the FC5 respin from fedoraunity if you like RH based distros. Then update the machine (including kernel) and turn off rhgb option in the boot line.
Wireless and sound and power management and all kinds of things work really nicely now. If I'm rambling a bit, it;s because I've had about 7 to 9 hours sleep over the past 4 days... -TomcaT- |
