Latest nvidia driver version supporting 1080i component on GF 6200 in Xorg?
Some time ago I accidently broke my fully working Kanotix 2005-4 HTPC system which was connected to a CRT HDTV via component out and 1080i. Actually, while doing a system upgrade, Xorg was replaced with a newer version not compatible with my nvidia driver at the time: version 8178 (if I remember correctly). This is the latest driver I know about which detected the component out of the 6200 card and the 1080i modeline correctly. With a broken driver you only get a small centered desktop of about 800x600 pixels, instead of 1920x1080 pixels. This is a well known nvidia driver problem (just search this forum). Basically I need to start over and install a new system.
The problem is that most OSes with a decent package management system is gradually moving to versions of Xorg which may only support "broken" (in my case) nvidia drivers. Sure I could reinstall Kanotix 2005-4, but some small little obscure system update could at any point take the whole Xorg with it due to a dependency and I would be screwed again. Meet the reversed dependency hell. (pirate)
Can anyone here tell me which is, in your experience, the latest working nvidia driver that sports 6200 component and 1080i? Any random thoughts or ideas about this problem?
