Firstly :
Here is my system hard spec : A-Bit NF7-S Motherboard (AGP 8X) NVidia NForce2 Chipset 512 MB Corsair CAS2 TwinX DDR 333 Geforce 3 Ti200 AMD Athlon XP 2400 OS Spec : Mandrake 9.1 The Problem : Installed the drivers using the New Installer, and also tried installing from the RPM's and even compiled from the source, also done the same with the last driver build. All installs seemed perfect. When booting; or when restarting X (with the nvidia module loaded) I get an unrecoverable lockup with a black screen. No log entry. Occassionally I have the kernel module failed to initialise error written in the /var/log/XFree68.0.log. Forced to have to hit the rest button, as the system is completely unresponsive. Secondly : I have tried disabling AGP (proof of which is in the atttached Config) Thirdly : Getting no where fast, so if anyone can give me some ideas, or have got the same problem on a similar spec, your feedback is welcome. Also if ive done something stupid, please point and laugh lol, but do tell me. Fourth : See attached files : First : XF86Config-4 Last edited by ChAoTiCa; 04-12-03 at 08:08 PM. |

I get exactly the same effect if I comment out Load "glx" . Black screen, and a completely unresponsive computer. Sorry if the XFree86.0.log was small its been been moving the rest into XFree86.0.log.old Here is my full log (ive appended them both together), this one has only had 4-5 reboots since first install so isn't a huge log either, but has some boots in their with the nvidia driver sending it into demise |

Managed to get the 3123 drivers working ok, so at least I can use those as a fall back now. Still no joy with the latest 4349 drivers.
So if you been having similar problems with this hardware spec, and OS try 3123, and build from the tarfiles. Any further info on things to try for 4349 to work would be apreciated though. EDIT : Put in correct driver reference Last edited by ChAoTiCa; 04-13-03 at 05:09 PM. |

3191? Do you mean 4191, or 3123?

Your logs indicate you're using the "nv" driver. Do you get that hang with the "nvidia" driver?
