Default xorg soft lockup in hd1080i mode

subject says it all...

i have nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx 8762 installed, using xorg 7 on gentoo. when i run in hd720p, xine and mplayer will play video clips and dvds just fine. however, when i switch to hd1080i mode, both xorg locks up as soon as the video window opens with both xine and mplayer. after the lockup, i have to ssh to the box and kill the xine or mplayer and x processes and restart xorg.

any clues on whats happening? has anyone else seen this behaviour?

thanks,
slate

This sounds like a known bug. I'd suggest searching the forum on 1080i to see if you're hitting the same problem as others. If not, please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log along with details on how to reproduce the problem.

Thanks,
Lonni

i searched the forum but couldn't find anything similar to what i am experiencing. attached are two logs, one when starting in 720p, the other for 1080i. all i did was startx with verbose 5, create the log and then exit for both resolutions. if i try to run xine or mplayer, it locks up x and i can't generate the log...

thanks,
slate

This is the known bug (GeForce 6200 is one of the parts known to be afflicted).

I have been having this same issue. My card is a 7300, however, so it is not just limited to the 6xxx cards. I would like to understand where this bug described and wether or not there is a plan to fix it.

This is bug 211455. There isn't a public interface to the bug, however you can post here or email linux-bugs@nvidia.com for a status update.

I see this issue still with 9626 fyi.

Edit: Wrong! For me this issue is SOLVED and video is now working with 9626. I now have a 6600 pci-e card running in 1080i mode using composite output (no vga converter device) and with working xv videos! Thanks NVIDIA. I just had to use the new and improved nvidia-setup utility instead of messing with my xorg.conf to set up the resolution. My only problem now is that I have about 10% overscan that I'll need to solve...
