X Crashes After New NVIDIA Driver Installation
Firstly, let me confess that I am a newbie to the world of Linux...
I am currently the following Config:
- AMD X2200+
- Asus a7nv Deluxe
- 512Mb RAM
- GF4MX 440 128Mb
I downloaded the *4349 drivers and installed it as per the instruction. I also amended the X86Config file to comment the line to load dri. The line to load glx is present and therefore no additions done. Lastly, I amended the driver section to point to nvidia as the display driver (opposed to the original nv driver).
Upon rebooting the PC and restarting X (default run level 5), everything went well, including the visualizations for xmms using open gl mode. However, after about 10-15 minutes, the sreen will go carzy with vertical lines streaking down, alternating between pale blue and the screen display. I can still move my mouse but no other inputs are accepted (locked-up).
Would appreciate all the help I can get but do pls provide me with the step-by-step approach ;p
Thanks in advance!
