Exclamation Crysis Interview

www.incrysis.com

Seems they are still targeting the winter

Quote:
Crysis Q & A

InCrysis Q&A – October 2006

1) What specifically will DX10 bring to the Crysis experience vs. DX9?

It will bring much more interactive and better looking environments running with higher frame rates, and consequently enable us to incorporate new game play possibilities.

2) Can you give us a ballpark estimate on the likely System Requirements?

Minimum specs have not yet been finalised, but we expect Crysis to scale as well as Far Cry did.

3) Can you give us specifics as to what alien technologies Jake will have access to.

Sorry, we are not yet ready to reveal those details.

4) Will we see any underwater adversaries, and if we do, will any of them dwarf the hunter?

Sorry, we are not yet ready to reveal those details

5) How will the passage of time work in conjunction with the environments? Is time always progressing so that it is possible to experience all environments at different times of day and/or with different weather types? If so, how will this work considering that the gameplay does not even encompass a full days worth of gameplay?

Different missions will take place at different times of day, and time will pass during those missions.

6) How will weather and climate changes effect the gameplay?

It will affect how the AI responds, their ability to perceive you, and your own and your vehicle’s mobility and responsiveness. Weapon accuracy could also be affected in bad weather. Major storms spawn tornados which have the potential to destroy buildings and other assets in the environment, which in turn can affect both you and your enemies.

7) We've heard that the server size was limited from 64 man to 32 in order to include the SP features of the game into MP. Does this include tornadoes, earthquakes, deformable terrain, tactical bullets, integrated HUDs, the different nanosuit modes, etc?

Yes, we limited to 32 players in order to maximise the quality of the gameplay experience, and consequently almost all the single player features will make their way into Multiplayer in ways never before seen in any Multiplayer game.

8) EA has several titles with Punkbuster to reduce cheating. Will Punkbuster be present in Crysis – or will it feature a custom anti-cheating solution?

9) The assault game mode is by far the most popular gametype for FarCry. Many ladders and competitions still going today exclusively use it. Now that Ubisoft has bought the intellectual property of FC, there cannot be an assault mode for Crysis. While Power Struggle looks interesting, what will you do about the legions of FarCry fans looking for assault? Will "Tactical Capture the Flag" be similar enough to give them their fix?

Our MP modes will be much more interesting and fun than any multiplayer mode that Crytek has released previously. Fans of Far Cry will definitely not be disappointed.

10) Can you tell us some more about the Crysis Sandbox editor including it's features, capabilities, and how it will improve the efficiency at which mod's can be produced?

The Sandbox editor has been completely updated to support all the cool new features of our CryEngine2, and we have made many UI and other improvements to make it possible to build levels more quickly and with far greater detail than was possible before.

11) Will there be a demo and will it be single player, multiplayer or both and when will it be released?

There are some demos planned, but we have not yet announced their intended content or release date.

12) With EA being the publisher how much so far have you been involved in Crysis?

It has been a strongly collaborative effort with EA contributing many important ideas along the way, but the ultimate responsibility of putting the game together and ensuring it meets the expectation of our fans still rests with Crytek.

13) When are we likely to see Crysis released? Will Vista’s release date affect this?

We are committed to releasing Crysis this winter. It will ship with both XP/Vista and DX9/DX10 support

What do you think this could mean? Co-Op?

What kind of problems are you having with SS2? It worked fine for me. I just had to use a program launcher to set the affinity to 1 core. Making an nvidia profile for the game and forcing v-sync seems to get rid of some of the turbo-speed moments from high framerates too.

I think I had problems with the video playback too, but there are so videos, its easier to just play them externally if you can.

Also, for what its worth, I have no idea if all of this works with the standard, original version of the game. The "package" I downloaded had all of the audio and video files re-encoded into modern formats as well as a few other changes to make it easier to run on a newer system. Your mileage my vary.

Anyways, back to crysis.

Do you have an Indeo codec installed Magus?

I'd also give this thread a read for troubles (I got the xp patch and it definately helped my crashing): http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69958

If you need a free indeo codec that'll work on xp, this one worked for me: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Indeo_Codec.htm

Well, just remember that winter goes from dec 21st to mar 21st, so technically, if it's out on, say, mar 20th, they're still on target
