Default XF86Config driver issue

I'm running Red Hat 9. I installed the newest drivers without a problem, until I change the nv to nvidia, as soon as I restart my X server all I get is a screen with Junk characters. I've done this three times now and as soon as I set nv to nvidia it does it every time.
