Default Composite Extensions Problem

I am trying to get beryl running on Ubuntu Edgy (xorg 7.1). I added the following lines in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

# Enable the composite extension

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
...
# Enable 32-bit ARGB GLX Visuals
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

# If you are using an older version of compiz that
# does not support rendering into the Composite
# Overlay Window, you will need to disable clipping
# of GLX rendering to the X Root window with this
# option, or you will get a blank screen after
# starting compiz:
# Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "True"

EndSection

However when I restart X I get the following lines in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log

(WW) NVIDIA(0): 32-bit ARGB GLX visuals require the Composite extension.
(II) NVIDIA(0): Disabling 32-bit ARGB GLX visuals.

The Beryl window manager then fails to open because of lack of composite extensions.

I have a Geforce 7950 GX2 running the latest 9625 beta driver on a 64bit Ubuntu install.

Help much appreciated (I have been following several howtos)

I think you should write these options

Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "True"

at the end of the "screen section"

maybe this howto can help you

http://forum.beryl-project.org/topic...nvidia-drivers

You don't need to enable the composite extension, in Xorg 7.1 it should be automatically enabled.

Quote:
# Enable the composite extension

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection
Hope this helps you.

OK Figured it out. When I installed the 9625 driver it placed:

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

at the end of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file which I had not noticed. When this is removed beryl works fine.

Any ideas why the installer might be doing this? Is the 7950 still unstable with aiglx and the 9625 driver?
