Dear friends,
Before I installed the beta drivers, I was using the 1.0-8776-3 drivers. The refresh rate of my monitor was set at 60Hz and the screen resolution was 1680x1050. I could resize my windows and such fairly with ease and it wasn't too choppy (laggy). After I installed the beta drivers 1.0-9626 and had AIGLX working with Compiz, everything looked awesome. The effects are pretty neat! The only problem I found was this: My monitor refresh rate is now set at 50Hz and it won't let me change it. It will not let me set it to 60Hz. As a consequence, when trying to resize any window, it is extremely choppy and laggy. It is as if nothing was accelerated. Although, the AIGLX effects are all nicely accelerated. I have an AGP nVidia Geforce 6600 GT on a 20.1" DELL 2007WFP monitor When I run the NVIDIA X Server Settings utility from Main Menu -> System Tools -> NVIDIA X Server Settings, and I select the "X Server Display Configuration" section, the "Layout" says that I am at 1680x1050 @ 60Hz. However, the GNOME system utility "Screen Resolution" says that I'm @ 50Hz. It seriously feels as if only the AIGLX stuf was accelerated but not the resizing of windows and such. It is very annoying. My xorg.conf file looks like this: # Xorg configuration created by system-config-display Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "single head configuration" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" Load "extmod" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 6600" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" EndSection Kindly, |

You should set "DynamicTwinView" "False"
in your xorg.conf. Please read this thread and vote for the bug http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...52#post1043452 |

Hi,
Yes, that would probably solve the issue where it shows the wrong refresh rate. However, we still cannot explain why the windows resizing and the desktop environment is laggy and choppy when in AIGLX "Desktop Effects" enabled mode. The resizing of any particular window is extremely choppy and laggy when in that mode ... Kindly, |

This is a problem with compiz I think. I'm experiencing the same laggy resizing with beryl, and it gets even worse when I enable an option called "Repaint window on each step". I got rid of this problem by changing the way that windows are drawn on the screen.
I'm using "Filled outline" option which draws a transparent rectangle instead of the actual windows' content when resizing. Play around with compiz options a bit, disable "Sync to VBlank" for example and see if it helps. Or simply switch to beryl and use "Filled outline" for resizing :-) |

Hi,
I would like to add another bug/finding when running in AIGLX "Destrop Enabled" effects mode. During the playback of any DVD using the latest Xine libs and Xine UI, there is a line across the top of the motion picture that seems to seperate the motion picture in sections of 1/3. The line systematically changes but remain at the same screen location. The effect is like as if the DVD video is lagging. When I disable the AIGLX "Destrop Enabled" effects mode, then everything is fine and there is no problem during playback of DVDs. Kingly, |

That's also a compositor bug (and has been discussed in several previous threads).
