Default worse performance with 9626 drivers // 9629 too

when i install 9626 drivers i have a huge performance drop in comparison with 9625

e.g. world of warcraft in opengl mode gives me 10fps instead of 50fps
glxgears drop from 13500 to 8000
ut 2004 drops also to unplayable levels

glxinfo shows no problems
if needed i install the drivers again to provide a bug report

I think I'm seeing the same thing. At first I noticed some of the games in Wine running slower (World of Warcraft in opengl mode, EVE Online), but figured it was the latest Wine update that borked something. Then I noticed glxgear's framerate was cut in half (14K -> 7K). Ofcourse, glxgears isn't much of a benchmark and can be somewhat misleading, so to be sure I did a few "timedemo demo1.demo" in Doom 3 1.3 running on Linux natively and the averaged result (ignoring the first run to prevent any caching from skewing the result) was 59 FPS with the 9626 drivers and 70.3 FPS with the older 8776 drivers (I haven't tried 9625 yet though). And we seem to have similar hardware (I have an XFX Geforce 6800GT PCIe in my AMD system).

Note that when I was swapping between 9626 and 8776 I touched no other part of the system, my xorg config etc. was left the same.

The problem seems to be gone with the 97.42 beta driver, though I need to reboot and run a Doom 3 timedemo to be sure.
