hi filmil,

Look like with your conf, it don't work for me, I believe your Dell Inspiron 8200 came with max resolution of 1400x1050. I'm very sure that this issue only appeared on the UXGA shipped by dell with the max resolution at 1600x1200 only.

Smile Re: display corruption on GeForce 440 Go

I was having the same problems with my Dell c840 as reported by a lot of people in this forum (display corruption due to an incorrect EDID). After banging my head against the wall for two nights straight, I did some reading and created a new EDID file.

I took the existing EDID from nvidia-settings and loaded it up in the phoenix EDID editor. Phoenix is a simple freeware Windows app, but it worked just fine in wine. It's not the most intuitive app around, but it got the job done. I used the nv-driver Modeline as the basis for my changes, exported as raw, and now x.org works perfectly.

My Fedora Core 6 xorg.conf contains only two extra directives:
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Videocard0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
    Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-0"
    Option "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/etc/X11/nvnew.raw"
EndSection
X.org 7.1 is sweeeeet. Anyway, I hope the attached EDID file can be of use.

File Type: zip edid.zip (269 Bytes, 1921 views)

Hi kelvin,

Tried your customized nvnew.raw binary, indeed it FIXED the long time outstanding resolution on Dell Inspiron 8200 15" Enhanced UXGA with GeForce4 440 Go. As you suggested, just needed 2 additional option for 9629 to work, there're; "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-0" & "CustomEDID" "path_to_edid.bin"

Without "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-0" on 8776 work, just wondering what's changed in 9629 caused the driver detected only CRT is present. Nevertheless, this edid.bin also solved the screen corruption while switching resolution in X.

BTW, kelvin, do you think possible to create 2 more valid resolution into edid.bin since the one you posted contained only 1600x1200@60Hz. Because when switched to 1400x1050 or 1280x1024 @60Hz the VertRefresh kind of too low & difficulty to read. This is the output from edid-read;

--------------------------------------------------------
Section "Monitor"
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
Identifier "Nvidia Defaul"
VendorName "NVD"
ModelName "Nvidia Defaul"
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
# Block type: 2:0 3:fd
HorizSync 29-75
VertRefresh 0-60
# Max dot clock (video bandwidth) 170 MHz
# DPMS capabilities: Active off:yes Suspend:yes Standby:yes

Mode "1600x1200" # vfreq 60.000Hz, hfreq 75.000kHz
DotClock 162.000000
HTimings 1600 1664 1856 2160
VTimings 1200 1201 1204 1250

EndMode
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
# Block type: 2:0 3:fd
EndSection
--------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, kelvin, Big Thanks to you
Cheers!

Hi folks,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 that was stuck at 7676 and 1400x1050. Just followed Kelvin's instructions and I now have 9629 working at 1600x1200. Looks great and the other resolutions work when switching with xvidtune. Xorg.0.log said that "960x720" wasn't valid but all the others work.

Modes "1600x1200" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1024x768" "960x720" "800x600" "640x480" "320x240"

Thanks Kelvin, the new driver and 1600x1200 look sweet.

Hi Kelvin,

It almost worked for me. Could you please post a custom EDID file for the following modeline?

"1024x768" 78.80 1024 1040 1136 1312 768 769 772 800 +hsync +vsync

That should work on all Toshiba Satellite 14xx series. I tried that program, but It's just to much information for me.

Thanks,
Waldeck

Thanks Kelvin!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 with 1600x1200 resolution, GeForce4 440 Go. I'm running Ubuntu 6.10 and had terrible problems trying to get the 9631 driver to work. . . .until i read your post!! Before, the screen would go blank as I logged in using gdm. But once I added: Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-0" it worked perfectly!!!

I hope this message can help others googling for answers

If it's possible, can you point me in direction how you installed 9631 drivers in Ubuntu6.10. I'm having problem installing drivers themselves. Thanks

Brilliant! I've been struggling with this for 2 days, and nothing worked. I nearly gave up hope, but I found this thread and FINALLY it works.

Someone buy this man a beer!
