7950GX2 Linux support

@netllama: i'm going to buy two 7950gx2 for Quad-SLI. can you assure me that both cards will run in quad-sli mode with linux by using the current driver. btw. i'm using an AMD64 system.

@nx-01: 1.0-8774 does not support Quad-SLI; support for Quad-SLI will be added in a future NVIDIA Linux graphics driver release.

from what i've heard it is possible to use quad-sli with linux in general. until i read this thread i did not even know that 7950gx2 is supportet at all. i currently have two 7900gx2 for quad-sli and i've further found a german wiki (i am from germany) how to configurate my x-server by using nvidia-xconfig for quad-sli. from what's told there it should be possible. if you want to, i could post the link to the wiki...

What about the 7950GT card? Is it supported by the recent nvidia drivers?
Does it actually work fine under linux? Will I be able to install and run Xgl/Compiz with the 7950GT card?

Just a comment on drivers for 7950GX2 on a 64bit OS (Ubuntu Dapper and Edgy)

I found that the 8*** series caused hard lockups fairly predictably. ssh to the box remotely did not help.

The new 962* series of drivers this did not happen. There is still the very occasional lockup which can be broken by a remote ssh login.

In both cases I was passing pci=nommconf to the kernel at boot.
