The RH 7.3 RPMs are tailored for kernel 2.4.18-3 (out of the box). After upgrading to 2.4.18-5 or 2.4.18-10 the tarballs should work better for you. The RPMs don't need the kernel-source, but the tarballs do.

Try the tarballs.

tar xvzf NVIDIA_kernel.blah.blah.blah.tar
tar xvzf NVIDIA_GLX.blah.blah.blah.tar

cd NVIDIA_kernel
make install
cd ..
cd NVIDIA_GLX
make install

reboot

Default RH 2.4.18-5 and NVidia drivers

I have downloaded NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.src.rpm and NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960.src.rpm.

I uninstalled all nvdriver and glx software on the system. I booted to 2.4.18-5 RH.

I tried to build both packages

rpm --rebuild pkgs

However the NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.src.rpm
failed to build on 2.4.18-5
-----------------
In file included from /usr/include/linux/highmem.h:5,
install: cannot stat `NVdriver': No such file or directory
...
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.33750 (%install)

RPM build errors:
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.33750 (%install)
from nv.c:63:
/usr/include/asm/pgalloc.h:6:24: asm/fixmap.h: No such file or directory
make: *** [nv.o] Error 1
+ exit 0
-----------------------

I rebooted back to 2.4.18-4 and was successfully able to build both pkgs.

Sigh...

I've never used the source RPMs.

Please, PLEASE, give the tarballs a try.

I downloaded the NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.tar.gz to my system.
I booted the system up to 2.4.18-5. "rpm -e " all the NVIDIA programs.

I did a "make" inside the NVIDIA directory created by gunzipping and untarring of the NV file. This is as the README file instructed. I got the following errors:

NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960]# make

echo \#define NV_COMPILER \"`cc -v 2>&1 | tail -1`\" > nv_compiler.h

Angry

I'm getting the exact same make errors as mad above, but on the kernel 2.4.18-10.

It's make install, not just make. Some people even use:

make clean
make install

Doesn't look like you're lacking the kernel-source. Or maybe your kernel and kernel-source versions don't match.
